Accessibility-focused & push-button snib

The lever return is functional, not decorative. It was developed to help a user stay in contact with the lever during latch operation when wrapping the fingers around a handle is difficult or not possible.

01

Grip and hand function

The design intent includes people with arthritis, reduced dexterity or limb difference; it is not limited to one diagnosis.

02

Retained contact

The hook-return geometry is intended to reduce slipping off the end while the lever is operated.

03

A separate snib function

The push button controls the internal snib. The lever operates the latch, with the hooked end intended to help the user maintain contact.

The purpose of the return

When fingers cannot form a grip.

5278 was developed around the need to maintain contact with the lever, not simply make it look more curved.

The hooked end is intended to support users who cannot grip a conventional lever. The exact operating experience depends on the user, lock, door and installation.

Australian accessibility design reference

The 5278 was developed around the accessibility principles of AS 1428.1: supporting operation where a conventional grip is difficult or not possible. This is a design reference, not certification of the handle or a complete door installation.

Before specification

Accessibility is assessed at the complete door installation: lever clearances, operation, forces, control locations and the applicable project requirements all matter. No AS 1428.1 certification or blanket compliance is claimed.

Standalone 5278 and complete-set 5277 sheets use different finish codes. Confirm the supply configuration and order code with CiiLOCK.
